Advanced imaging technology
for precise oral surgery
DFWOMS uses cone-beam 3D CT scanning and the 3Shape Trios® intraoral scanner to plan and deliver oral surgery with accuracy that traditional imaging cannot match. Serving patients in Irving, Mesquite, and Ennis, TX.
3D CT Scan — see what traditional X-rays miss
DFWOMS uses cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) — a 3D imaging system that produces precise, crystal-clear digital images of your jaw, teeth, nerves, and bone structure in a single scan. Unlike traditional spiral CT or flat X-rays, cone-beam technology captures a complete three-dimensional picture of your anatomy at a significantly lower radiation dose.
Our system allows us to select the exact field of view that matches your case — targeting only the area of concern. This limits your radiation exposure while giving our surgeons the detail they need to plan treatment with confidence.
3D CT scans allow our surgeons to identify structures that are invisible on standard X-rays — including nerve pathways, bone density variations, and proximity to adjacent teeth. This directly reduces surgical risk and improves outcomes for procedures like implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, and jaw surgery.
3Shape Trios® Intraoral Scanner — no impressions, no radiation
DFWOMS uses the 3Shape Trios® intraoral scanner — one of the leading digital impression systems available. A small wand is passed gently over your teeth and gums to capture a precise 3D digital model of your mouth in minutes, with no radiation and no messy alginate impressions.
Digital impressions are used wherever traditional impressions would have been: for dental restorations, night guards, and — critically — for patient-specific surgical planning that improves accuracy and outcomes.
How our imaging technology works together
The 3D CT scanner and the intraoral scanner are designed to work as a complete digital workflow — from diagnosis to surgery to follow-up. Combined, they allow our surgeons to plan your case with a precision that was not possible with conventional imaging.
A cone-beam CT scan captures a complete 3D image of your jaw, bone, and nerves. Our surgeons use this to identify the exact anatomy of your case before any procedure begins.
The 3Shape Trios® scanner captures a radiation-free digital impression of your teeth and soft tissue. This digital model is used alongside the CT data for patient-specific surgical planning.
Our surgeons can share 3D images and digital models directly with your referring dentist or specialist — enabling coordinated care and a clear explanation of your treatment plan before the procedure.
With complete imaging data in hand, our board-certified oral surgeons in Irving, Mesquite, and Ennis can perform procedures with greater confidence and precision — reducing risk and improving recovery.
Questions about our imaging technology
Our cone-beam CT system is designed for low-dose imaging — it uses significantly less radiation than a traditional hospital CT scanner while producing clinically superior images. We also limit the scanning field to the specific area of concern, which further reduces exposure. The 3Shape Trios® intraoral scan uses zero radiation.
In most cases, imaging is performed as part of your surgical consultation at DFWOMS. Your referring dentist or our team will determine whether a CT scan is needed based on your specific case. Contact our Irving, Mesquite, or Ennis office to discuss your situation.
Dental implant placement, wisdom tooth removal (especially impacted cases), corrective jaw surgery, and bone grafting benefit significantly from 3D CT imaging. The intraoral scanner is used for implant planning, night guards, dental restorations, and any case requiring patient-specific surgical guides.
